This is my first series who is going to be episode blogged, so take care of me while I pop my cherry.
Summary
( Don’t expect a long wall of text retelling each move and turn the anime goes from my part; why read it when you can see the real thing?)
This first ep introduces us 2 main concepts of the series: Yomas, man eating monsters capable of assuming the human shape of their victimss, making them almost undetectable and Claymores, women who turned themselfs in hybrids: half-human, half-Yoma. Not having a name, the population calls them by the swords they carry with them.
In these Middle Age lands, one village is terrorized my one of the Yomas , so they decide to hire a Claymore. When this unnamed Claymore reaches the village, everyone fears the women due to their yoma hybrid part, except one boy, who expects her to revenge his dead parents but he is treated coldy by the Claymore. Later at night, he finds out the man who tought it was his brother was infact a Yoma in disguise but he is rescued by the Claymore, who kills the Yoma.
After this incident, the Claymore leaves. the villagers expel the boy , fearing he becomes a Yoma too, so he goes after the Claymore. Fainted during a sandstorm, he is rescued and brought to a nearby village. when he goes after his supposed rescuar, turns out it was a Yoma disguised as a Claymore, and the reescuaer;the original Claymore appears and rescues him again in spite of her personal safety. The Claymore finaly accepts the boy as a traveling partner;who makes remember her past; and also reveals her true name, Clare.
First Impressions
Three words can describe what I thought when I saw this 1st ep: Berserk with breasts.
Having already read the manga I was anxious how the adaptation would work out and I’m happy to say I’m pleased. Several strong points are revealed since the start. one is the animation quality, which is very good and managed to grasp the mangaka’s original style. The characters are well portrayed, especially our main heroine (?) Clare. Trouble is I don’t know how to define her: Is she GAR? Is she Moe? She would chop my head with her claymore if I used any of those terms. (2nd time this happens since Revy of Black Lagoon.).
One point that really clicked on me was the soundtrack: as oddly it may see, it’s filled with minimal trance, dramatic techno and orchestra tracks, but they are geniously inserted resulting in a stunning work. But the Op “Raison D’ĂȘtre” din’t appealed me at 100% (maybe it sounds like a generical J-rock anime OP…). Maybe it will grown into me like past OP’s made with me.
Talking about future impressions; I’m truly convinced Claymore will be a big hit, but will suffer from a similar thing with Berserk, a slow start. But manga to anime adaptation tend to be rather umpredictible on how good or bad it will turn out, so I will keep my mind open for the moment. Meanwhile I’m gonna get myself ready for upcoming doujins of Claymore…it wont be pretty to see.

LOL, bezerk with breats. This series definitly got me hooked.
