euhm, the manga doesn't date from 1983 but from 1990. And actually Last Order is sort of an alternative ending to GUNNM.I don't like the sequel as much as I like the original. I really love the illustrations from GUNNM. GUNNM Last order is technically better but the illustrations lost some of their charm. So does the story. It started pretty well, but now I kind of think it is getting too long. Kishiro is getting to far into details and the main objective where the story started with (finding/saving Lou) has been pushed to the background. One thing however remains very good and that is the fact that Kishiro gives his characters a very realistic personality. As said in the revie: "well-developed and with a unique human feel into them." Altough I think Gally is been much 'colder' in Last Order than she used to be in GUNNM.

Srose: the manga dates from 1983, so the drawing isn't as smooth and clean as today's mangas. But it fits well on the apocalyptic enviroment of the action.

blurry: yeah I know the ending sucks, but Yukito Kishiro has made worth it to wait 8 years for Gunnm: Last Order. So technically it isn't the ending , it's more of a dream Gally has. Canon story continues in Gunnm : Last Order., and believe me , the sequel is better than the original.

ohhh~ sounds interesting. I'm especially attracted to how you said the characters are developed. otherwise, i'm not really into fighting mangas/anime.

Ending by the original author, however rushed, might still be better than ending by a different author. =( Trinity Blood author passed away before being able to finish his novels. >_

honestly, the illustration sucks... Err... i'am the person who like goes for nice concept designs and illustrations. well after seeing some of the panelings and pages it did not made me go for a "wow" reaction. I love the contrasting the toning it gives this tech-ish style.

isn't that like ghost in the shell? or is it much different?
